Philadelphia is getting help from Security Cameras

Mayor John Street is not a stranger to crime. Born into a violent rural community in Norristown, Mayor Street began his public career as a community activist for peace. Today he announced a plan to add 250 security cameras to city streets.

The first of the cameras will be installed in the violent neighborhood around 52nd and Market Streets in West Philadelphia according to Deputy Police Commissioner Jack Gaittens. The first of the cameras could be operational as little as two weeks.

The cameras will all be wireless, highly visible to deter criminals, and monitored by a new class of civilian police workers.

The $9 million deal between the city and Unisys provide video surveillance to a large area of the city.

City Council members Darrell Clarke and Donna Reed Miller promised legislation that would authorize a similar amount for another 250 cameras next year - 500 altogether by 2009.

About the Philadelphia Mayor:
John F. Street was sworn in as Philadelphia's 97th Mayor on January 3, 2000.

Lower Manhattan Gets UK Style CCTV Security Camera System

As 2007 comes to an end in New York City the Lower Manhattan area should have around 100 new CCTV Security Cameras online. According to a plan appropriately titled “The Lower Manhattan Security Initiative” this is the start of thousands of cameras all connected to a central network monitored by the New York City Police Department. So far the project appears to be 25% funded and as monies become available the initiative will continue. However as you could expect there is already opposition from the New York Civil Liberties Union who object to the collection of the video on law abiding citizens. Source : New York Times

CCTV In Manufacturing With Video Demo

CCTV and the Manufacturing Industry have had a long relationship. As technology has turned CCTV camera systems into network accessible management tools that relationship has grown stronger.

Currently CCTV camera systems are being used to monitor plant safety, security, to improve the efficiency of assembly lines, warehousing, and every aspect of the manufacturing process.

Additionally CCTV camera systems are always a great deterrent to raw materials and tool thefts that have traditionally been a challenge for the manufacturing industry where easy access to expensive and hard to track assets is commonplace.

This demo was made using a Merit Lilin PTZ PIH7600NL and was recorded on a Geovision DVR server supplied by Camera Security Now. This demo was recorded on motion activation at 15 Frames Per Scond. Motion or around the clock recording are all software controlled and are customized per camera as needed.
