GeoVision GV-NVR

GeoVision GV-NVRThe GeoVision GV-NVR, or Network Video Recorder, is a camera system that records audio and video data over TCP/IP networks. The GV-Surveillance and Video Management Platform is built upon easy-to-integrate and comprehensive supporting technologies and hardware. The GV platform provides performance-optimized video monitoring as well as advanced analytics/control features which support many enterprise's management functions.

The platform itself is scalable and extensible and can also be fully customized and integrated seamlessly with other security system applications that include POS/ATM/EAS to help with loss prevention, License Plate Recognition systems for law enforcement, entrance control and revenue collection, Central monitoring stations for high profile commercial, industrial or residential areas with high security, access control for building automation or even megapixel IP devices for monitoring critical areas and mobile objects.

The GeoVision GV-NVR allows you to house as little as 4 channels to as many as 32 channels with certain minimum requirements for each. For all channels you will need a minimum OS of either Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista though 64-bit versions of these operating systems are not supported. To house 4 channels you will need a minimum Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz CPU and Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz for anything more. All systems require 2x1 GB Dual Channels of RAM and ATIx700 256 MB VGA. You also need a minimum 1 HDD for 4 to 8 channels, 2 HDD for 16 channels and 3 HDD for 32 channels.

GeoVision also recommends that people running 32 channels use 4 hard drives of Seagate SV35.3 Series or other brands and to run 8 channels to a single hard drive. This is recommended due to the fact that with 32 channels of megapixel IP video sources, the size of transmitted data may be very large and reach beyond the processing speed limit of a normal hard drive.

Overall, GV-NVR is a good bet for your camera system with its easy integration to other systems and its solid supporting technologies. If you are in the market for a security camera system but aren't interested in making a permanent purchase then check out our security camera rentals page.

Miami Security Cameras

Miami Florida Security Cameras
This month we are doing a special feature on security cameras in the city of Miami, Florida. CCTV Security Camera’s are a common site in Florida’s largest city Miami. With a population estimated to be over 400,000 and a surrounding metropolitan area of 5.5 million people it is easy to see why Miami is one of the nation’s fastest growing cities.

Along with the boom in the population Miami is also seeing a great increase in development and construction of sky rise building of 400 feet and higher. Miami is actually third in the US for high rise developments. The boom has also brought along with it a high demand for Security Cameras for traditional office space. Security Cameras play a vital role in keeping an office safe and secure. It is also a great utility for staff to watch over their employees.

If you would like to learn more about our GeoVision security camera solutions for Miami visit our CCTV Learning Center or ask a question on our discussion forum entitled Ask a CCTV expert.

GeoVision Software Upgrades

GeoVision Software Upgrade InstructionsOne of the many features we like about the GeoVision DVR product, and the PC based solution in general, is that the software can be upgraded. In the case of GeoVison, a company that has been a world leader in the manufacture of professional grade DVR cards for decades, the software upgrades are 100% free.

Some of the cool new features we have seen added to the surveillance software over the years include, people counting, object tracking, missing object notification, face detection, 3G mobile phone support and on and on and on.

We think the level of dedication GeoVison puts into their software and its continued improvement is just one of many reasons to consider a quality PC based DVR. If you are already in agreement with us and own a GeoVision DVR we hope you find the above link to the upgrade process to be helpful.

If you have any question on the GeoVision software or its upgrades please give us a call today at 877-422-1907

DVR Card - Under Four Hundred Dollars

GV 650 - Four Port Card - Under $400Recently someone asked the question: “What’s a good 4 port DVR card for under $400”. That’s a good question because a quality four port DVR card at the right price can give a small business or a home user a lot of options for a security camera system.

To help our readers answer that question, so they don’t take our word, or the word of any vendor as gospel, let me explain the thinking has lead to our decision to sell the GeoVision brand of DVR cards.

1.Dependability – GoeVision DVR products are used worldwide and their years of digital surveillance system design and commitment to manufacturing excellence are reflected in their DVR cards. With hardware failure rates so low that you can rest assured you are buying a quality product.

2.Features – Offering one of the most diverse and continually updated software packages in the industry every model, from the most entry level, to the top of the line GeoVison DVR card uses the same quality software. Popular features include Hardware Image Compression, IP camera support, Point of Sale Integration, Access Control Integration, Online Monitoring, and even License Plate Recognition.

3.Ease of Use – Being a PC Based Security Camera Solution the menu driven GeoVision software is easy to upgrade, maintain, and use. Offering all the network connectivity and remote access options as any business class computer system the GeoVisoin DVR solution offers total network flexibility.

4.Value – As subjective as this is I think most will agree that a quality product, from a reliable name brand manufacture with a lengthy history in the security business, along with state of the art software designed for serious business security applications, and a reasonable price, would constitute good value.

So with that being said we at www.camerasecuritynow.com would recommend the GeoVision 650 four port DVR card as a great solution to the under $400 dollar DVR question. As mentioned above this card offers the same software as the GeoVision models selling for double its price and with the card operating at 60 Frames Per Second you are guaranteed to get at least 15 Frames Per Second Per Camera even if all four ports were recording simultaneously.

How to Open Ports for a GeoVision DVR Server Firewall

When your GeoVision DVR server becomes up and running, the next step you need to do will be to connect the server to your local network in order to allow intranet or internet access. Connecting to a network will allow you utilize the remote viewing and playback feature of your CCTV DVR server through the use of any internet web browser. The problem that comes with utilizing this unique feature of remote access, however, is that you must "teach" your server how to deal with these incoming signals

It is important to remember that if you are behind any type of firewall, without the proper configuration, it will block your incoming requests for remote access. In order to solve this issue you will have to configure your router to accept incoming requests from the internet. This requires the opening of ports on your router in order match up the incoming requests of your web browser to your DVR server.

If you are interested in learning how to properly configure your router for use with a GeoVision server, see our Opening Firewall Ports on a GeoVision DVR Server page for a step by step walk through tutorial and other information.

Intelligent Video Surveillance from Smart DVR's

Digital Video Recorder

As technology continues to improve all around us, in nearly all aspects of life, it makes sense that Digital Video Recorders (DVR's) are also following the same trend and becoming more "intelligent". As with most products in the world, especially when dealing with technology, there are many different expectations that people hold when it comes to the intelligence of a DVR.

Some people have very basic needs when it comes to a security camera system and are impressed when a DVR can record video to a hard drive, and then be played back from the web on any computer. Others, however, become lost in the world of CSI and create unrealistic expectations of the DVR. These people come to believe that any digital image can be magnified indefinitely, without loss of quality, and that faces can instantly be matched up to a criminal database.

Realistic expectations from an intelligent DVR come standard on a GeoVision Security system. These features include: recording when detecting motion, internet connectivity which includes remote viewing and playback through a web browser, central monitoring software to allow several DVR's to be monitored locally or remotely, and face detection, detecting missing or unattended objects, and many more.

With GeoVision DVR's all systems have the same quality of software and a high level of intelligence. GeoVision models only differ in hardware configuration which can affect the frame rate of capture, number of cameras each system supports, and the size of video storage. Many users are opting to go with the GeoVision systems due to their high level of intelligence and reduced cost when compared to less intelligent name brand DVR's.

For a better understanding of how an intelligent GeoVison DVR from Camera Security Now can help on your security camera project call us today at 877-422-1907.

CCTV Security Camera Catches Theif Red Handed

Theives caught by CCTV Security CameraA unique feature that a CCTV monitoring firm has implemented has helped in the arrest of a materials theft who was stealing from a construction site. This CCTV monitoring firm was offering a very helpful and under-utilized service that was directly responsible for the burglars arrest. They had trained operators monitoring their CCTV Security Cameras and were able to see the theft live as it happened. The company acted accordingly and was able to contact the police and within 8 minutes of the report the police were able to catch the and arrest the thief.

Here is a quick video of how a GeoVision Security Camera System that has a live monitoring service might benefit you and your company.

GeoVision Electronic Article Surveillance

GeoVision Electronic Article Surveillance GeoVision announced plans last week to collaborate with Electronic Article Surveillance(EAS) systems providers and integrate EAS features into their upcoming video surveillance software.

EAS integration will allow retailers to not only receive alarms when an un-scanned item attempts to leave the store but will trigger exit door video to automatically be recorded and marked as an EAS event. This video will even be available in live time to store management using their PDA’s, thus allowing for faster and more appropriate responses to potential shoplifting incidents.

The EAS system will not only record video when an EAS tagged item leaves the store but will also be able to match it up with video of the shelf where the item is stocked. In this manner the GeoVision surveillance system will be able to quickly provide a video trail of the attempted shoplifting incident.

Through more effective EAS video integration retailers can take advantage of their GeoVision CCTV security camera system to reduce loss and the costs associated with preventing and or prosecuting shoplifters.

TV Output from Geovision DVR Server

Currently there are four methods available on having a TV output of your DVR monitoring.

1) If the PC DVR server is equipped with a combo card, there is a single video out (RCA) connection on the card. If your card is designed for 8 channels, all 8 channels will be displayed on the TV. If your card is designed for 16 channels, then all 16 channels will be displayed on the TV. Combo cards consist of the GV-1120, 1240 and 1480. If you wish to show only one channel or change the overall layout of the multiple cameras on display (i.e. channel 1 is large with 3-6 on the side is small) you will need to use the software called Spot Monitoring. Spot Monitoring is only available on the GV 8.01+ software, which means you need to latest GV combo card before you can use this feature.

2) If your using the GV-250, 600, 650, or 800 capture card, then you will need to buy a separate extension card in order to have the TV output feature. The card is called a GV-Loop Through card and can output four channels. Unlike the combo cards, the GV-Loop Through card will only output one channel at a via for each connection. For example, output #1 will only output camera #1, output #3 will only output camera #3. You do not have the option to use the Spot Monitoring software with this card.

3) For those that wish to have the spot monitoring feature, but only have a GV-250, 600, 650, or 800 capture card, there is a new extension card that is available. This card is call the GV-TV Out card, and will give you the display feature options just like that with the Spot Monitoring software. Since this card is fairly new, it will only work the the GV main system 8.01+ software.

4) If you wish to display one channel to multiple TVs, you will need to buy a module called DIS-104. This module will recieve one video signal and distribute it to four separate TVs.
