San Francisco International Airport Adds More Cameras

San Francisco International Airport Adds More Cameras

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is located about thirteen miles south of downtown San Francisco. It's the tenth largest airport in the United States and the twentieth in the entire world. It serves as a major gateway from North America to Europe, Asia, and Australia. SFO is a major hub for United Airlines and Virgin America is also based out of the airport. In addition to the airlines themselves, it offers a number of restaurants, shopping, baggage storage, public showers, a medical clinic, assistance for lost or stranded travelers and military personnel, and the Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum. It also boasts a strong surveillance system, which is about to get even stronger.

Currently, there are over 1,300 cameras at the airport, keeping travelers safe, and thanks to a $5 million grant from the Transportation Security Administration, there will soon be a lot more. The new cameras will be added to terminals, which will allow the airport control center to monitor the facilities with a graphical user interface program that maps all the cameras at SFO. Personnel will be able to switch quickly from camera to camera. Cameras already monitor the airfield and roadways, as well as the terminals, baggage areas, and security checkpoints.

The goal is that the new system will allow security agents to respond to incidents more quickly. According to Edward Gomez of the TSA, SFO's CCTV system is one of the best in the nation. He says it has helped officials respond to illegal activity and has been helpful overall with day-to-day airport operations.

SFO is hoping the new cameras will take about three months to install. While the TSA has been adding extra security to airports since 9/11, this particular program has been in place since before the terrorist attacks. After the Christmas Day 2009 bomb attempt, the TSA is also adding whole-body scanners to the nation's airports. SFO currently has body scanners in its international terminal according to the San Francisco Examiner, however, Mayor Gavin Newsom would like to see them in all of the airport's terminals.

Don't Leave Your Small Business Vulnerable

Though property crime rates are on the decline, more than 1 in 8 households were victims of property crime in 2008. Small businesses are prone to theft and other property crime like households, because there is the perception that they are more likely to get away with burglarizing a small business than a larger business. There are many ways to protect your business from property crime, like criminal conviction checks, past employment verification, and employee education (more theft protection tips), but security cameras are often the most effective method.

Security cameras and public knowledge of the use of security cameras creates a perception of detection. As score.org puts it: “Employees who perceive that they will be caught engaging in occupational fraud and abuse are less likely to commit it. Increasing the perception of detection may well be the most effective fraud prevention method.” Of course, not only employees are deterred by the perception of detection, the same goes for other people who might consider theft or other property crime.

Unfortunately, security cameras do not stop all instances of theft. However, property is more likely to be recovered or reimbursed when the theft is recorded on camera. In reality, very little stolen property is actually recovered, but most of the recovery is thanks in part to security systems. Due to this, theft deterrance should be the main focus of the camera system.

Today, security systems are affordable for small business and even homeowners. Small business surveillance systems can be installed for as little as $1000 - $5000. The security systems can be CCTV or even IP-based so you can view your cameras from anywhere with internet access.

Systems can be put together very affordable; bullet security cams and dome security cameras start at $80 for black and white and $150 for color. Lenses are available in all sizes from 2.5mm to 500mm and can be changed easily, so your needs can be met for all surveillance areas regardless of size and distance. Pan-tilt-zoom cameras, known as PTZ cameras, that allow users to “look around” the surveillance area are also available.

Don't leave your small business, restaurant, or bar unprotected! Act before its too late and you're the victim of theft. Click for more information about camera types and assistance choosing what cameras are right for your small business surveillance needs.

Chicago Transit Authority Stations Get Security Cameras

Chicago Transit Authority Stations Get Security Cameras

If you take advantage of rapid transit in Chicago, come Memorial Day, you'll be on camera. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is putting cameras in all 144 of its rapid transit stations by the end of May. Chicago already has what the Chicago Sun-Times has referred to as, "nation’s most extensive and integrated camera network." By the end of the year, the city's buses and rail stations alone will have over 3,000 security cameras.

The cameras will start out being placed at station entrances and eventually, each station will have 20 cameras total. The CTA will also explore whether or not they want to add cameras to older rail cars (newer cars already come with cameras).

Said CTA President, Richard Rodriguez, to the Chicago Sun-Times, "If there’s something that needs a closer look, we’re able to zoom in and get a better view. The high-definition cameras help us get a very clear picture. As more cameras are added. You’ll be able to go through a number of different camera views from any given station …Video images provided help first-responders to assess situations and act accordingly, whether it’s a service disruption, a medical or a police emergency."

The $41.6 million camera project is being funded by Homeland Security, with the CTA investing a little less than half. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley said during a press conference that the cameras will be monitored and will be used to assist in emergencies and evacuations. He also said the cameras will be used to help monitor what's going on during the hours right after school, when the bus lines see a large group of student passengers.

But the main reason for installing the cameras is to help solve crimes after they've been committed. Said Daley, "Say someone commits a robbery, runs to the CTA trying to get on the CTA. They come through here. When they have cameras, we’ll get their pictures coming in. If it’s an armed robbery, a home invasion or a burglary — whatever it is. If they’re in a car driving down, a camera will pick them up."

Security Cameras for Gyms & Health Clubs

Security Cameras for Gyms & Health Clubs Gyms see a lot of visitors each day. Most people are in and out and at all hours of the day. In addition, many people view gym members as wealthier than your average citizen because they can afford the gym membership, especially at gyms in nicer neighborhoods or that have a more exclusive membership. These factors alone can attract a number of unwanted types of crime at any gym, spa, or health club and one great way to prevent a criminal from wreaking havoc on your gym is to install quality security cameras. Here's a look at how security cameras can help your prevent everything from vandalism to violence at your gym.

One of the best things a camera can do for any business is prevent crime. When a would-be criminal sees they are being monitored, they are less like to commit a crime. They know that anything they do or say will be caught on camera and that footage will be turned over to police and the media, increasing their chances of getting caught. At Camera Security Now, we can help you decide where the best location for a security in your gym might be.

Security cameras in sight can also help increase your business. When new members are previewing your gym, seeing well-placed cameras may be one thing that helps them decide between your place and the place without cameras down the street. Often times, people come and leave gyms and health clubs in the early more or late night hours because there is just not enough time in the day. I know I'd feel much more comfortable walking to my car in the dark with cameras watching over me, wouldn't you?

In addition to protecting your members and deterring would-be criminals, security cameras can help you monitor and protect your staff. Want to make sure your personal trainers are actually doing their jobs? Maybe you have life guard who has been known to spend more time flirting with swimmers than watching for any dangerous situations. Security cameras allow you to keep an eye on things when you can't be right there .

So, you've decided your gym, spa, or health club needs a camera? What's next? Here are a few tips that will help make your gym the most secure option in town!

1. Avoid putting in security cameras in areas such as locker rooms in order to protect the privacy of your customers.

2. Take into consideration what damage could be done to your cameras. If you plan to place them outdoors, or in an area where they may fall prey to accidental damage (i.e. an area where items such as tennis balls are often flying around), you'll want to take extra precautions to see to it that the cameras themselves are protected.

3. Have you had security issues in the past? Maybe your parking lot has seen its share of assaults or maybe there is a corner of your lobby where thieves tend to wait around for unsuspecting victims. You'll want to make sure these are the first areas you cover.

4. Do you have buildings or rooms that are not often supervised by your staff? These are also high priority areas where you will want to place cameras.

5. Any business should have a security camera pointed at all points entrance. This way, you can get a look at anyone who passes through your doors.

6. Do you have a snack bar, vending machines, gift shop, or any other place where cash is often exchanged? Cameras in these areas will not only protect your customers, but allow you to check up on any staff member you suspect of being dishonest.

7. Finally, when you're reading to purchase your camera, you'll want to visit CameraSecurityNow.com or call 877-422-1907 for the best cameras in the business with the most competitive prices and the best customer service.

NYPD Wants More Security Cameras After Car Bomb

NYPD Wants More Security Cameras After Car BombCities installing security cameras is always a topic up for debate. Some feel that cameras are an invasion of privacy, while many others believe cameras are just what they for protection. But anytime a city is faced with an act of terror, many more people become pro-camera than not, and that is exactly what is happening in New York City right now.

Over the weekend, a car bomb that never went off, was found in Times Square in New York City. The incident captured the nation and the media's attention for days and a suspect with terrorist ties has since been arrested and allegedly admitted to setting up the car bomb. Police were tipped off to the car bomb by a street vendor, but security cameras are helping police with their investigation and case against the suspect, and many are asking if more cameras could have played an even bigger role.

Senator Charles Schumer of New York has already requested at least $30 million in federal aid for more New York City Security Cameras. That in addition to the $20 million in federal funding the city will receive this year.

Mayor BloombergNew York Mayor Michael Bloomberg would also like to see more cameras and technology in the city. Earlier in the week he said in an interview, "You can always make things more safe. Do we think we have it right? We can always do better and we are working on that." Bloomberg also said that thermal imaging devices were used to detect the bomb and that he'd like to get cameras that are capable of reading car license plates.

Security Cameras are common in New York City and it's no surprise. The city is the largest in the United States with over 9,000,000 residents, and the metropolitan area has over 5.5 million. The city is often called "The Gateway of the Americas," due to the fact that it is basically the cultural and business center of our country. It's home to the largest ports in the United States, houses the United Nations, is a center for international commerce. With all this in mind, it's no wonder there is a bigger need for security cameras in New York.

If you live in New York City or anywhere in the United States and are in need of a security camera or surveillance system, CameraSecurityNow.com can help. For over 20 years, we've been a leader in CCTV sales and service and we offer competitive prices and excellent customer service. We currently service the entire New York City metropolitan area.

Cops in Harlem catch two crimes on CCTV on the same night in same building.

On Saturday January 2nd officers assigned to the Viper Unit, part of the NYPD's housing bureau that monitors security cameras at a housing project in Harlem, caught two suspects on CCTV in the same building, on the same night.

The first incident involved a stabbing. Officers didn't have a suspect description, but saw a man standing in the elevator, barefoot, and followed him through the building and outside on a cold, snowy night. They called in the description and the suspect was arrested shortly after.

The suspect is Alejandro Morales is being held without bail for the stabbing death of his 9 year-old cousin, Anthony Maldonado.

The second incident involved animal abuse. The officers just happened to see a 21 year-old man viciously kicking and abusing a tiny black-and-white Chihuahua and Pomeranian mix. The man kicked the 12 pound dog across the elevator where the dog cowered in the corner until they left the elevator.

Officers searched the building for the suspect and when Chris Grant returned to his home on Monday, he was greeted by police and arrested. He was arraigned last week on charges of torturing and injuring an animal and resisting arrest.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly gave the officers certificates of recognition for their work. One, Lt. Jason Savino, was also commended for tracking and locating a second murder suspect. The other four, Sgt. Christopher Dixon, Det. Michael Oner, and Police Officers Raul Gabriel and Naetron King were commended for helping to capture "an abusive individual who repeatedly and brutally beat a small defenseless dog."

Cameras Combat Crime in Amish Country

Located in the heart of Dutch country, Lancaster, Pennsylvania may have the image as one of the tranquil places in the country. But in reality, it's one of the most crime-laden cities in the country. In 2008, Lancaster ranked 9th among cities its size in violent crimes rates. For this reason, city officials took a step to protect their citizens by installing 160 cameras across four square miles within Lancaster. According to CBS, that's more cameras than major cities such as Boston or San Francisco.

The cameras are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week by paid employees, who can zoom in and out when they see something suspicious. According to Lancaster Police Chief, Keith Sadler, the camera monitors are to call 911 when they see unusual activity and the police are immediately notified. As a matter of fact, live video feeds can be sent right to police dispatchers.

So far, the cameras have captured a number of crimes, such as DUI accidents, an illegal gun sale, and an assault on an elderly victim by a group of teenagers. The cameras also helped catch a murderer. According to the victim's mother, Freda Brown, the jury was able to watch everything that happened via camera footage of her 19 year old son's violent death.

But as with anything, the camera experiment is not without controversy. One Lancaster citizen says the camera captures him walking down his street or sitting on his front porch. His complaint is not that the cameras are in place, but who is behind the monitors watching them. While the cameras are funded partially by the city, they are also funded by private individuals, individuals who some citizens say have an agenda.

Joe Morales, the head of the security coalition that operates the cameras says he understands that the monitoring system is a touchy subject, "We understand how serious this is, the very serious nature of the work we're doing. And we know that it wouldn't take very much to damage the trust and integrity we've earned up to this point."

And the debate continues. Over the last seven years, since the cameras began being implemented, some citizens point out that the crime rate has held steady. But for Freda Brown, the cameras were an instrumental tool in bringing her son's murderer to justice.

According to CBS, at least four more cities in the United States are considering implementing the same program.

Historic British Park Gets CCTV Security

Historic British Home Gets CCTV Security

Earlier this year, the historic Lydiard House at Great Brittain's famed Lydiard Park was subject to vandalism and other "anti-social behavior." The home, which dates back to the 18th century was the home of the aristocratic Bolingbroke family and is currently owned by the Swindon Borough Council. According to the BBC, the council has made the decision to install a total of nine surveillance cameras at the site.

This is not the first time the historic site has been subject to vandalism. Several incidents have taken place over the last few years, costing taxpayers money for repairs.

The park's manager, Stuart Webb, thinks the cameras will be an important part of preventing future incidents and keeping park visitors safe, "Like everybody else, we have problems - we had problems last year. Putting the cameras in place is part of a raft of measures to make sure people feel safe and make sure they have a fantastic time when they visit Lydiard."

CCTV security cameras are being placed in more and more parks and historical sites in the United States, as well. Government officials are hoping the presence of Security Cameras will make parks and attractions more desirable to visitors by keeping crime at bay.

Security Cameras for Schools

Security Cameras for Schools
Whether you're in charge of a daycare center, an elementary school, a high school or a college, both public and private, one of your main concerns is the safety of your students and teachers. Since incidents like those at Columbine High School and Virginia Tech, concerns about safety on school campuses have grown and more precautions are being taken to step up security. One sure way of keeping your school safe is a quality surveillance system. Cameras placed around school campuses take notice of everything from unwelcome visitors to violence amongst students. As a matter of fact, many schools are currently updating old systems security camera and putting even more cameras in and around school buildings...

The Hoxie, Arkansas School District is installing 180 new security cameras this summer. The cameras will be placed in areas such as classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria and outside, around the school. The School District Superintendent says the cameras will not only keep kids safe, but should help decrease discipline problems, allowing teachers to spend more time educating students.

In Bay City, Michigan, Bay City Public Schools are installing security cameras in middle and high schools. The district received a grant from Coca-Cola to help better the schools and according to the superintendent, they have wanted to install cameras in several areas throughout the schools for a while now. Each principal at each school has designed a plan for the cameras that will help enhance school security and allow administrators to monitor what's going on within the school.

Several schools in the Alle-Kiski Valley (the greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area) are installing more security cameras in their school systems, hoping to reduce crime. While local residents hope the cameras will prevent drug dealers and child molesters from entering or even moving to the area, local police say cameras have already prevented and solved many problems including vandalism and fightigh, because students know there is an extra eye on them.

Miami Security Cameras

Miami Florida Security Cameras
This month we are doing a special feature on security cameras in the city of Miami, Florida. CCTV Security Camera’s are a common site in Florida’s largest city Miami. With a population estimated to be over 400,000 and a surrounding metropolitan area of 5.5 million people it is easy to see why Miami is one of the nation’s fastest growing cities.

Along with the boom in the population Miami is also seeing a great increase in development and construction of sky rise building of 400 feet and higher. Miami is actually third in the US for high rise developments. The boom has also brought along with it a high demand for Security Cameras for traditional office space. Security Cameras play a vital role in keeping an office safe and secure. It is also a great utility for staff to watch over their employees.

Security Cameras for Sports Fishing

Security Cameras for Sports FishingThe days of the big fish tales could be coming to an end. As more and more Sports Fishing Charters are taking advantage of security camera systems to document that “one that got away”.

With standard GeoVision / Dell DVR systems from www.cameraseucitynow.com going out to sea, charter sports fishing services are now offering video of their customers entire fishing experience. Hopefully including that once in a lifetime catch.

With the exception of taking care to use a CCTV camera that is rated to withstand the salt water environment the DVR systems themselves operate just as they do back on land. The charter service simply installs the cameras in any and all vantage points to watch their guests spend a leisurely day fishing. The DVR is of course always watching, always recording, and when a customer gets back to dock with a catch worth keeping the charter service offers the client a DVD of all the action.

Of course having a security camera system installed on the boat also gives the captain and crew great live time information. Even on a boat the benefits of real time and recorded video information across multiple areas cannot be overlooked.

So remember if you are prone to telling tall tales be sure to ask if your next deep sea fishing charter is equipped with a camera system. If so… just hope you really do catch that 300lb. Grouper.

CCTV Has More Than One Meaning

Closed circuit television or CCTV is the industries standard in surveillance cameras. CCTV is often a single network of cameras, multiple networks of cameras linked together via switches or the internet, or wide area computer technology. In the instance of using CCTV online, the video is digital and therefore possible to be managed and stored automatically by computers and network storage devices. This technique is often used in areas that require constant monitoring such as banks, casinos, airports, military installations and convenience stores.

Another meaning CCTV takes on is the China Central Television. This network provides news and information to the majority of China, and is currently broadcasting the Olympics that are being held Beijing. When you Google CCTV more search results come up for the Olympics rather than closed circuit television because it is much more popular and relevant to what is going on in the community.

When the Olympics are over and much of the hype dies down, the closed circuit television (CCTV) will come back up as number one in Google searches. Google always shows the most recent and up to date news first, even if what you are looking for is a more popular search term. In this case, the Chinese Central Television holds more weight in Google due to its relevancy to the Olympics.

Surveillance at the Democratic National Convention

CCTV Security for the Democratic National ConventionWhen the Democratic National Convention comes to Denver in August, there will be new security camera systems installed to deter crime. On the 14th of July, Denver City Council approved an agreement with Avrio Group for the installation and maintaining of a security system. The agreement was worth over $940,000.

The new system will be an addition to the existing HALO (High Activity Location Observation) system that is currently in place. Some technology being considered is video feed from the cameras being fed to police cruisers. Many of Denver residents are questioning the effectiveness of having so much security, some even worry about privacy. City Officials assure them that the security will help with security and safety and that technology on the cameras keep them from looking in windows, homes, and stores. Federal funds will be used to repay the city eventually for the additions.
