GeoVision Electronic Article Surveillance

GeoVision Electronic Article Surveillance GeoVision announced plans last week to collaborate with Electronic Article Surveillance(EAS) systems providers and integrate EAS features into their upcoming video surveillance software.

EAS integration will allow retailers to not only receive alarms when an un-scanned item attempts to leave the store but will trigger exit door video to automatically be recorded and marked as an EAS event. This video will even be available in live time to store management using their PDA’s, thus allowing for faster and more appropriate responses to potential shoplifting incidents.

The EAS system will not only record video when an EAS tagged item leaves the store but will also be able to match it up with video of the shelf where the item is stocked. In this manner the GeoVision surveillance system will be able to quickly provide a video trail of the attempted shoplifting incident.

Through more effective EAS video integration retailers can take advantage of their GeoVision CCTV security camera system to reduce loss and the costs associated with preventing and or prosecuting shoplifters.

Security Cameras From Tech Army E-Store

Security Camera E-StoreCamera Security Now announced today they will be marketing their Security Camera and GeoVision DVR products online through the Tech-Army E-Store. The new agreement comes as the Tech-Army goes live with a new and improved E-Store released early in the Forth Quarter of 2007.

John Beagle, CEO of CameraSecurityNow.com, said his goal for the new Online Security Camera E-Store was simply “To improve the speed at which we process orders for those customers who have a straight forward security camera or DVR need”.

Beagle went on to say that unlike the firms main Security Camera website, that targets complete security systems for medium to large scale businesses, the Tech-Army E-Store is designed for smaller, and simpler security camera needs.

There are however several complete security camera packages in the E-Store and security consultants are always available for free phone consultations. Should any security system have the need for onsite installation those services are offered from Camera Security Now by way of their nationwide Tech Army installers.

Philadelphia is getting help from Security Cameras

Mayor John Street is not a stranger to crime. Born into a violent rural community in Norristown, Mayor Street began his public career as a community activist for peace. Today he announced a plan to add 250 security cameras to city streets.

The first of the cameras will be installed in the violent neighborhood around 52nd and Market Streets in West Philadelphia according to Deputy Police Commissioner Jack Gaittens. The first of the cameras could be operational as little as two weeks.

The cameras will all be wireless, highly visible to deter criminals, and monitored by a new class of civilian police workers.

The $9 million deal between the city and Unisys provide video surveillance to a large area of the city.

City Council members Darrell Clarke and Donna Reed Miller promised legislation that would authorize a similar amount for another 250 cameras next year - 500 altogether by 2009.

Lower Manhattan Gets UK Style CCTV Security Camera System

As 2007 comes to an end in New York City the Lower Manhattan area should have around 100 new CCTV Security Cameras online. According to a plan appropriately titled “The Lower Manhattan Security Initiative” this is the start of thousands of cameras all connected to a central network monitored by the New York City Police Department. So far the project appears to be 25% funded and as monies become available the initiative will continue. However as you could expect there is already opposition from the New York Civil Liberties Union who object to the collection of the video on law abiding citizens. Source : New York Times

CCTV In Manufacturing With Video Demo

CCTV and the Manufacturing Industry have had a long relationship. As technology has turned CCTV camera systems into network accessible management tools that relationship has grown stronger.

Currently CCTV camera systems are being used to monitor plant safety, security, to improve the efficiency of assembly lines, warehousing, and every aspect of the manufacturing process.

Additionally CCTV camera systems are always a great deterrent to raw materials and tool thefts that have traditionally been a challenge for the manufacturing industry where easy access to expensive and hard to track assets is commonplace.

This demo was made using a Merit Lilin PTZ PIH7600NL and was recorded on a Geovision DVR server supplied by Camera Security Now. This demo was recorded on motion activation at 15 Frames Per Scond. Why a big e-store is not the best e-store

Why don't we have thousands of products in our Security Camera e-store when everyone else does? Answer: Because we know our products and we only sell only the good stuff.

Seems like every security camera e-store has thousands of products listed. If that's the case then which product is right for you?

Call them - Try calling a 'thousand camera product' e-store. If you get anyone on the line, which is unlikely, ask them about the product. Odds are, they don't even know what the item is.

Which product is best for your individual security camera need? A 'thousand camera product' e-store, doesn't even sell 10% of their products. Some of their merchandise is good, some is not so good. You are gambling with your security camera installation.

Now call us during regular business hours (Monday - Friday 8am to 6pm EST). We will help you with a project, even schedule security camera installers for you. Ask for Bill, Andy or John on our toll free number 877-422-1907.

We sell and are familiar with 100% of the products in our e-store.
Do you have all the right pieces and parts like connectors? Buy a complete security camera package from us and you will get all high quality products and every plug and do-dad you need for your security camera project.

Don't gamble with those other sites, trust us to sell you exactly what you need .

Campus Video Surveillance In An Age Of Insanity

In the days immediately following the April 16th tragedy at Virginia Tech we at CameraSecurityNow.com received several calls from reporters and news organizations that all searched in vain for any statistics that related to campus violence and video surveillance. As of course one of the first details to emerge that day included the fact that Virginia Tech had no campus wide video surveillance system in place.

Although that fact is still some what of a shock in today’s world it was quickly pointed out by one of the campus officials that a surveillance system would have done nothing to prevent this tragedy. Unfortunately I have to say on that one point they are right.

Video Surveillance Systems can benefit a campus in a lot of ways. They can deter crime, they can help provide evidence critical to the apprehension of suspects, they can provide invaluable live data to emergency response personnel at the moment of crisis but they can not deter or prevent the insanity that happened April 16th at Virginia Tech.

Samsung Standalone DVRs - Where They Fit

Samsung Standalone DVR units like the SHR-2042 have been in our inventory for well over a year and in that time we have learned a lot about their place in the complicated world of CCTV Camera Security.

After much discussion with customers, vendors and our Samsung Rep we now have a very good understanding of how the Samsung Standalone DVR units fit into our product mix and how they can be of benefit to our customer base.

Coming from a PC/IT background there was a time when not a one of us had given a second thought to a DVR solution that was not PC based. But perhaps the most important thing we have learned in the last year is that not everyone thinks like we do. There are plenty of very intelligent people out there that have made a success of their business with out turning into a PDA dependant techno junkie. These people however unlike us still have a need for security. Many of them simply want a dependable and basic solution.

If that describes you then a Samsung Standalone DVR is worth your consideration. Samsung DVR’s are well respected as an upper tier product and have a two year warranty from Samsung with a 120 day advance replacement plan.

In general the biggest benefit of a Samsung DVR is they are easier to operate and have fewer potential hardware and software liabilities than their PC based rivals.

Specifically the benefits of the Samsung Standalone DVR would be the elimination of the older tape based multiplexer CCTV technology. The Samsung DVR is the simplest way to save your video in a digital format and bring your system up to date with full internet access.

With a Samsung DVR installed gone is the need to change tapes, gone is the need to stop recording if you want to play back a video clip, gone is the low resolution video, and gone is the need to be onsite and in front of the unit to have full access to its features.

To be fair and balanced the PC based systems in the right hands can definitely be a strong asset and provide a very feature rich solution. But again we have learned not everyone loves the PC like we do.

We now often tell people that if they are a PC hobbyist, have in IT staff that requested a PC based DVR, or have a very complex security need, then a PC based DVR system is most likely a good choice. If not then consider the Samssung DVR,

So no matter how big or small your security need rest assured we understand the place for both the Standalone DVR and its PC based competitor and we are here to help you come to the right DVR decision for your project.

Replacing Pelco Equipment with Geovision DVR Servers

The Pelco CM6700 Matrix Switcher with a Pelco TLR 3096 Time-Lapse Video Recorder are one of the main VHS based systems still in use today. The Geovision DVR Server is basically a drop in replacement for this legacy equipment. Most switch-overs take less than 2 hours. That’s 2 hours to change your complete security system from an older technology to state of the art CCTV DVR Camera Security System.

Gone are the days of switching VHS tapes daily, the days of viewing your business remotely from the comfort of your own home are here.

The staff and Camera Security Now are specialists in replacing VHS based systems with new technology. They are a partner with the Tech-Army.org, who specializes in local installation CCTV DVR Security equipment nationwide

CCTV Camera Systems Improve Car Sales

Having talked to 100’s of customer and having thought I heard it all I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to learn yet another common sense use for our Geovision Camera Security Systems.

The caller was from an Auto Dealership in Denver and like most he told me they wanted cameras to watch the lot for potential trouble at night.

However this individual had already thought this through and realized that if the lot was covered with cameras then during the workday the salesman could log on to the system from their desks and watch the lot in live time. This of course would ensure that each visitor was greeted by a salesman and ultimately increase the revenue for all involved.

Apparently the current scheme boiled down to the salesmen having to hang out as long as they could by the main floor window and simply try to watch the lot for potential customers. I have to agree that being able to watch the lot in all directions from their desk should make for a lot more effective sales force.

Video Database of Crime

The International Association of Chiefs of Police has begun an ambitious project to compile a nationwide video database of crime. Four cities have been chosen to begin the collection of data: Fort Worth Texas, Everett Washington, Raynham Massachusetts and Cincinnati Ohio.

The database will collect clips of actual crimes in progress and will be used by law enforcement to visually identify suspects, methods of operation, weapons, etc. across multiple times and locations. The actual data will come from both public and private sources including traditional CCTV camera systems, hand held camcorders and even cell phones.

Some day a detective may be able to sit at a computer and search for bank robberies committed any where in the country by a male with a read ball cap or a certain weapon type. Access to this information of course could easily help connect the dots that would in the past take endless man hours of interviews and detective work.

At present there are fewer than 700 recognized forensic video analysts in the country but the International Association of Chiefs of Police and this program hope to change that as the amount of video evidence used in law enforcement continues to grow.

The Law Regarding Audio From A Camera Security System

Recording Audio with the Professional Grade Audio Products sold by CameraSecurityNow.com for use with a Dell based Geovision DVR is quite easy and questions about that topic come up daily.

Unfortunately many people we talk to have one or more misguided opinions as to the law in regards to audio recordings. Some people believe they have no obligation to inform anyone that audio is being recorded and others think they have some state law that takes precedence over the federal law I have attempted to educate them on. Of course both of those beliefs are in error but seldom can you change some one’s mind when they have their own preconceived notions on such topics. To help explain the basics we have listed below a notice as posted on the Louroe Electronics website in regards to Audio Surveillance.

Judging the Worth of a Camera Security System

It has been said that everything has its price. But in the business world does this truly apply to the often intangible benefits of a Camera Security System?

To be fair and balanced we should of course remember that every corporation or government entity is ultimately run by imperfect human beings that must make decisions based on real world financial limitations.

With that in mind, below are some observations from my small town:

This morning I heard on the local news that an elderly pedestrian was hit and killed just four blocks from my home by a police car over the weekend. The police car did not have an in car camera installed. The accident happened in a city where revenue generating Red Light cameras have been installed for years. Several eye witnesses have already disputed the officer’s claim that he had his lights and siren on as he traveled at high speed down the road in response to a call from assistance from a fellow officer. Unfortunately the lack of an in car camera will undoubtedly lead to countless allegations and denials in the wake of this life shattering and life ending tragedy.
